Reference : melodic minor scale modes
The following modes of the melodic minor scale are used in jazz. Most of their names are derived from the major scale modes. For example, the II mode is called Dorian b2 because it looks like a Dorian mode with an altered second degree. In this context b means half a step lower and # or natural means half a step higher.
