Measures 7 to 9

The soprano presents the subject in G major followed by an episode:

• A small variation of the subject appears in the bass: notes G and A are used instead of D and C (we will call it variation a).
• The motive continues with an ascending movement, adding a note (in red) at the beginning (variation b).
• The last notes of the motive (dashed lines) are repeated in measure 8 and 9.
• The episode ends with a perfect authentic cadence to D major.
