Chord Symbols

As much in Baroque music as in jazz and contemporary pop music, composers have looked for ways of indicating the use of chords through the medium of symbols, which save them the work of writing out in musical notation the chords that should accompany the music.

This type of notation or symbolism indicates to the performer the chord that they should use, but it leaves up to their musical tastes the exact way in which they realize the chords.
