Countersubject

The counterpoint that accompanies the answer and the subject. To be considered a countersubject and not free counterpoint, it must be regularly used.

This example is from Bach's fugue in G minor BWV 885. The upper voices presents the answer while the lower voices plays the countersubject. The countersubject will appear each time the subject or answer is played:
